All It Takes Is a Smile

Greetings, everyone! Today I was thinking about something... (or would it actually be someone?) who means a lot to me. I've been thinking about John Lennon and his song "Imagine".

My father showed me The Beatles ever since I was a child, and I basically grew up with their music. I was young, I liked the fast-paced beats of rock n' roll, and I fell in love with the band. As I grew up, I still kept my love for them, but I started to form my own opinions about life.

My favorite Beatle was George. He always felt like the kindest and sweetest of them all, and I've always liked that about people. However, let's give George his own spotlight some other time, as he deserves it fully.

When I was in my high school years, I started to listen to their solo works, to what they composed after the band broke up. "Imagine" was a song that always intrigued me, but I never fully understood it until I was about 26 or 27 years old.

I used to actually think of John as just a dreamer, saying things that don't make sense and are too utopian to actually work. But it's not like that. The song, in my opinion, is not telling us to imagine a world with things that we see on a day-to-day basis missing, but rather to remember something that is truly important: we are all "mankind", we are all the human race. We are all brothers and sisters, and we have to treat each other with kindness.

It's easy to pass by someone and never give them a second glance. It's easier to not care about the starving man at the corner of the street. But what if that man was your father? Would you help him then? What about that sad child sitting alone in the corner of the classroom? All it takes is a smile and a hello to make someone's day better.

What does it mean to be a human being? And, as a matter of fact, my website is actually named thanks to this song: "Imaginenc" or "Imagine and see", for it is not enough to just imagine, but we should also see the world, see the beauty in it and in ourselves, and see the beauty we can achieve together. A simple smile offered to someone can make the entire world a little better.
