Hello, everyone! As promised, the game is finally ready. Took longer than expected, as the web version did give me some trouble when uploading to itch.io. It can be found at codytnewman.itch.io/signal-from-the-deep, starting from today at 21 UTC. For those who want to sit a bit longer and chat until the time comes, welcome!

It's definitely been an interesting journey. I used to make games back in the day, not really famous by any standards. Now, after 8 years since my last game, I made Signal from the Deep. I don't expect it to blow up, or even get that many plays, that was never the goal. I wanted to make something of quality, to learn a new way to tell a story, or at least to re-learn an old way that I never truly mastered in the past.

Godot, well, GDScript is quite nice. It had its fair share of frustrating moments when "what is even wrong with this?", "what is even triggering this?" or "of course the whales are coming! they always have to come before I'm ready!".

As for the story itself, which was my main focus, I ended up having quite a lot of fun with it. My favorite characters were Mary and Sergei. They didn't really get that much "screen time", as the game shows them by their absence, but if you put together the puzzle pieces, their dynamic ends up quite intriguing. Of course, most of it is still in my notes, the hidden talks, the secrets only AL would know (and David wouldn't know to ask), the things that just did not feel like they could reasonably end up as an email, journal or log are not really there, though this does offer the option of "filling in the blanks".

Well, enough spoilers, I'll just leave you with one simple hint: not all the logs are what they seem! Someone is playful.
